That does seem like a rather sound theory. Not exactly the most comforting idea for some, to know that one's soul is worth about the same as a dog or cat, but it would explain a few things. And I'll take your word for that last part. Death is rarely a pretty sight, and I can only imagine that would be extremely less so.
